Patent from the Government of the U. S. to the Missouri Shawnees : certified copy, 1849 Dec. 21.

Certified manuscript copy in an unidentified hand of a patent granting an expanded section of land in eastern Kansas to the Missouri Shawnees and "those of the same Nation... residing in Ohio", in accordance with an 1825 treaty signed in St. Louis by William Clark, Superintendent of Indian Affairs, and Shawnee representatives. Original patent was signed by President John Tyler and other federal officials on May 11, 1844. Copy is signed by Justin Butterfield, Commissioner of the Land Office.
